Epoxy Flooring FAQ

Two days is typical for a standard residential garage. Day one is diamond grinding, crack and joint repair, and the base coat with flake broadcast. Day two is scraping, vacuuming, and the polyaspartic topcoat.

Foot traffic is generally fine about 8 hours after the topcoat goes down. Wait 72 hours before parking vehicles on it so the coating fully hardens under hot tires.

Our coatings carry a 10-year adhesion warranty. That covers the bond between the coating and the concrete — the part that depends on prep, which is the part we control most carefully.

A coating is only as strong as its bond to the slab. We diamond grind every floor to open the concrete profile, remove old sealers, glue, and laitance, then repair cracks and control joints. Coatings that peel almost always failed at prep, not in the product.

We diamond grind. Acid etching is faster and cheaper, but it does not consistently produce the surface profile a full-solids epoxy needs, and it can leave residue behind that interferes with adhesion.

Epoxy is the high-build base layer that bonds to the slab and carries the color or flake. Polyaspartic is the topcoat: it cures fast, resists UV so it will not amber in Florida sun, and takes the abrasion, chemicals, and hot-tire contact.

Flake is the versatile all-rounder for garages, patios, and driveways, with texture that hides dirt and adds grip. Quartz is a denser, more slip-resistant broadcast that suits commercial and wet areas. Marble/metallic is the showpiece: seamless, pigmented, one-of-a-kind, and best for interiors and countertops.

A flake or quartz broadcast has natural texture, so it grips well even damp. On smooth metallic floors, or anywhere around a pool deck, we can add a non-slip additive to the topcoat. Tell us where the floor lives and we will spec it accordingly.

Yes. Outdoor work uses UV-stable polyaspartic topcoats so the color does not yellow, and we install a moisture barrier where the slab needs one. Salt air, afternoon storms, and standing water are all normal conditions here and the system is specified for them.

Slabs on grade — especially older ones without a vapor barrier — can push moisture up and lift a coating from underneath. When we see the signs, or on pool decks and lanais, we install a moisture-mitigating primer before the base coat.

Usually, yes. We grind the existing coating to see how well it is bonded. If it is sound, we can profile it and go over the top. If it is peeling, bubbling, or a thin box-store kit, it comes off first — recoating a failing floor just buys a short delay.

Cracks, spalls, and pits get repaired as part of the prep, before any coating goes down. We fill and grind them flat so they do not telegraph through the finish. Structural or moving cracks can reappear over time, and we will point those out before we quote.

Dust mop or blow it out, then damp mop with warm water and a mild pH-neutral cleaner. Skip anything acidic, citrus-based, or soap-heavy — those either soften the finish or leave a film. Rinse spills, and put mats or pads under anything sharp or heavy that gets dragged.

Hot-tire pickup is what lifts cheap kits off a garage slab. A properly ground and primed full-solids epoxy with a polyaspartic topcoat is built for it. Just give the floor its full 72-hour cure before parking on it.

A properly prepped and installed system lasts many years in a residential garage or interior. Wear comes from traffic and abuse more than time, and a worn topcoat can be re-coated later without redoing the entire floor.

We do. Custom epoxy countertops can mimic marble, granite, or a design that is entirely yours, with heat- and scratch-resistant topcoats and colors we design with you.

Clear the space — vehicles, shelving, freezers, anything sitting on the slab — and make sure we can reach a standard outlet and, if possible, water. Grinding is dusty even with vacuums running, so we will hang plastic to protect adjoining rooms.

We grind with dust-extraction vacuums attached to the machines and seal off doorways with plastic. It is not a zero-dust process, but a garage or interior job should not leave a layer of concrete dust through the house.
