Merritt Island

Merritt Island sits between the Indian River and the Banana River, and that geography shapes every floor we install here. The island has everything from canal-front homes on South Tropical Trail to older ranch houses off Courtenay Pkwy, and the slab conditions vary just as widely.

Waterfront and canal-front homes on the Tropical Trail and Sykes Creek are the tougher environment. High water tables mean slabs stay damp year-round, and storm surge and salt brackish air leave chloride and mineral deposits on concrete. Those floors need a moisture test and a vapor-rated primer before any decorative layer, or the coating blisters from underneath within a season.

Inland Merritt Island — off Courtenay Pkwy and around the Tropic and Audubon neighborhoods — has more standard residential slabs, including a lot of detached workshops and boat garages. Those floors see jack stands, marine gear, and oil, so we spec heavier basecoats and a full broadcast flake for abrasion and slip resistance when the floor gets wet from boat trailers and fishing gear.

Merritt Island also has a fair number of older homes with hand-finished slabs that have been coated before, sometimes more than once. We grind through the prior layers, repair settlement cracks and spalling, and rebuild the surface before coating rather than pouring over the old material.

Because the island runs north-south, we stage materials and crew from our Cocoa shop and run the whole job — prep, coat, topcoat, walkthrough — without the downtime of repeated cross-county trips.
